About Amy Iverson

Amy Iverson

I am a full time at-home, working mom, with a Masters Degree in Education. I have taught at the Preschool and Elementary School levels, worked with Junior and High School aged youth and am the mother of three children.

After discovering yoga for myself and upon realizing that I wanted to share yoga with children and their families, I became certified to teach children's yoga and founded SYY in the Fall of 2005. My goal is to make the benefits of yoga availalbe to children and youth of all ages and abilities, as well as to instill in those with whom I work, a life long connection to the tools of yoga that may nurture a lifetime of self growth.

I am a registered yoga teacher and a licensed practitioner of the program, “Yoga for the Special Child.” I am currently pursuing credentials in the fields of Special Education and Yoga Therapy.

About Spokane Youth Yoga

Spokane Youth Yoga offers children of all ages and abilities the opportunity to experience the challenges and benefits of doing yoga in a fun, supportive, accepting and non-competetive environment. Whether through private or small group instruction, students will be encouraged to explore the challenges of yoga in a manner that supports their individual growth and development.

Spokane Youth Yoga provides young people with a platform for learning about the importance of good physical and emotional health. Yoga can help pave the journey into adulthood by providing strategies for coping with day-to-day challenges, as well as for those that arise along the way. Through relaxation exercises, children may learn to confront their fears and anxieties with confidence and composure. Through strengthening and balance postures, children may develop their self-confidence and physical agility. Through their work in yoga, children may learn to breathe fully and relax completely. They may learn to pay better attention to their bodies, to challenge themselves appropriately, and to honor their true selves.

We just wanted to thank all the kids featured in photographs on this site, and their parents, for helping us! And also special thanks to MaryEllen Cooley and Joanna Darlington for taking many of the shots.
