Amy Iverson
I have a Masters Degree in Education, have taught preschool through high school and am the mother of three young children. I have worked with youth my entire adult life.
After teaching for several years and before starting Spokane Youth Yoga, I spent ten years as an at-home mom. It was during those ten years that I discovered yoga and it didn’t take long for yoga to become a very important part of my life.
Upon realizing that I wanted to share yoga with children and their families, I became certified to teach children's yoga through the Radiant Child Yoga Program and founded SYY in the Fall of 2005. I am registered through Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level and am a licensed practitioner of Yoga for the Special Child. I love teaching yoga to children and learning about yoga through children.

I am currently in an intensive yoga teacher training program and will be certified through the Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level this June. I graduated from Pacific University with Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science. I also studied Sports Science for one year in London, England. I have been practicing yoga for 6 years and have been involved in sports and fitness my entire life. I started taking yoga classes to become more flexible for other sports, but soon realized that there are so many more benefits that come from practicing yoga. Over the years yoga has helped me in many ways and most of all has helped me find a peaceful balance between my mind, body, and spirit. I hope that I can pass on the many joys of yoga to my students.
I am very grateful for my family and have been keeping very busy since the arrival of our new baby girl in November 2007. I also enjoy running, snowboarding, photography, and traveling.

I was lead to my first hatha yoga experience in college, signing up for a non-credit class to break up my tiresome academic routine and to get much needed exercise. What I found in those early weeks was a challenging class that cultivated patience and discipline. Though this class, I discovered an unknown athleticism in myself and cultivated self-confidence. My experience in Yoga has changed my relationship with my body by enhancing coordination and self-awareness.
I began practicing Astanga Yoga at City Yoga three years ago and completed a 200 hour teacher training program in Spring of 2007. Previous experience in youth outdoor-education and my love of learning shape my direct and enthusiastic teaching style. I look forward to sharing my knowledge of yoga with a community of students in a classroom centered around safety and exploration.
