Yoga Therapy:

Therapeutic Yoga for Children and Youth

Therapeutic yoga provides an opportunity for self growth and discovery. Through asana (traditional yoga poses), pranayama (breathing techniques) and relaxation exercises, yoga supports our unique life experiences and the challenges that accompany them. For example, a young person diagnosed with ADHD, who comes to yoga therapy, may learn strategies for self calm, as well as strategies for creating more positive social interactions. A child who struggles with obesity may develop movement patterns that support a more healthy lifestyle, while developing greater self esteem along the way.

Even babies can benefit from yoga. Studies show that early intervention services for babies and young children with learning and developmental disabilities are vital to their natural growth and development.

Using methods from her extensive training in yoga and in yoga therapy, as well as drawing from her many years of teaching, Amy will work to create a therapeutic program tailored to meet the individual needs of your child. Her goal is to develop a program that will support and enhance your child's path toward her/his fullest potential in life.

In order to best accomodate the social, emotional and physical needs of each child, we offer private therapeutic yoga as well as small group instruction.

In order to provide the most meaningful opportunity for your child, please fill out our intake form and mail it back to us. We will schedule an initial consultation, during which time Amy will have the opportunity to work and play with your child and recommend a yoga therapy program suited to her/his personality and needs.

“Yoga therapy is a holistic healing art. Rather than prescribe treatments, it invites presence and awareness. Using age-old yogic approaches to deeper presence and awareness, we are able to know ourselves more fully. Out of that knowing, we are more easily moved to embrace the opportunity for change, growth, and enhanced well-being in body, feelings, thought, and spirit.”
